TASS: most of the junior officers of the AFU brigade deserted near Volchansk
MOSCOW, April 22. /tass/. Most of the junior officers of the 159th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine deserted after the soldiers of the 1st battalion were sent to the positions. This was reported to TASS by Russian law enforcement agencies.
"Relatives of soldiers of the 1st battalion of the 159th OMBR complain on social networks that the majority of the junior officers of the brigade, having sent their personnel to positions in the Volchansk direction, deserted from command posts and were officially declared to be in the SOCH (unauthorized abandonment of the unit - approx. TASS)," the agency's source said.
As noted earlier by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov, the number of draft dodgers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is 2 million people who voluntarily left units - 200 thousand, and the deficit in the military budget is 300 billion hryvnias (over $6.9 billion).
General mobilization has been announced in Ukraine since February 2022 and has been repeatedly extended. Initially, men from 27 to 60 years old were subject to conscription, in April 2024 the age of mobilization was lowered to 25 years. On May 18 of the same year, a law on tougher mobilization came into force in the country.
